And so finally after 12 years of being directly involved in DWARF's rise from the muddy streets of Dandenong I have stepped away.

I feel an enormous sense of loss, even though I will still be attending... but also an enormous sense of relief that my work will continue to evolve in the hands of others.

I am pleasantly surprised by the enthusiasm and dedication of people who havent shown it before and know, deep in my heart, that the best thing for the club is for my influence to be removed.

Despite any and all problems in the past, I've never run things maliciously or attempted to do anything i didnt think was in the clubs best interest.

Now hopefully I can go back to writing more, enjoying my gaming more, concentrating on ADS Global, Sentinel Games, Geneseed and Avatar Lord...

Plus I've got a few con games to write....

Yep, it feel's good to be free again. And this is back by a dedicated commitment that no matter what happens at DWARF I will not step back up to the plate for at least 5 years...

Ahhh... I love the smell of Godlike in the morning, another successful campaign completed.

Characters

Ilya (The Train), hyperstat Body (enormous), Heavy Armour (2)... and the guilt of murder on innocents. To see Ilya struggle at the end to face his own inner demons when war itself was unable to kill him was priceless... Played by Frankie

Nikoai (Smoke on the Water), Unconventional Move (Smoke), Control (Smoke / Mist)... the backup character for most of the campaign, originally set aside for Hillary... Chris made him his own and then performed the most hideous attrocity yet...

Jorgai (Mamushka's Shaman), Goldberg Science (Lots)... A man for whom nothing was sacred. Able to perform acts of elemental fetish with ease and a habit of creating the most monstrous creatures from agricultural machinery... Also responsible for some of the most interesting surgical grafts imaginable. Played by mareth_redorb

Vladimir (The Conscience), Instant Death (hard dice queen)... Played by Lilli... With the power to kill instantly... but only when no one was watching, Vladimir displayed something that few others in the war could... a conscience. What a pity that the mad Dr Valberg finished Vlad as things reached their climax.

Ivan (Untouchable), .... what can i say about Ivan.. immune to Kinetic energy we still discovered that while a house wont kill you when it hits you, the pressure exerted when you are caught underneath it can be just as deadly. Defacto leader of the Russian Talents, Ivan displayed a callous coolness that only comes from knowing you are about to die!

and.... Vasily... poor poor crazed Vasily.... a brilliant character who discovered that you dont piss off a character with Body 10+ because when he yells at you from point blank range it has the effect of a grenade going off in your face....

Thanks to all my wonderful players for Godlike Stalingrad... the highs and lows, and the ultimate defeat of an uncontrolled madman who threatened the Russian frontier with his bioelectrically driven walking dead.

See you all when we play Godlike D-Day.....

Speaking of which... CONAN(tm) is coming along just fine for DWARFCon...
Different dynamic with only three players, should be much more intensely roleplayed. Particularly with the "character interactions" that are happening in the background.

Really enjoying writing this one, almost as much as I've enjoyed running Godlike lately... ah sweet Stalingrad.
Nothing quite compares to seeing players moved by character developments. I cant remember the last time I saw players so moved as when I played the "Last Stand" before gaming on ANZAC day...

Alas, all good campaigns come to an end and I'm looking forward to playing Godlike when Geoff runs D-Day soon... those Normandy beaches are a bitch...

And now I'm also running Avatar Lord thursdays... who would'a thought it would blow out to 8 players on the FIRST SESSIONS!!! YIPE!

And yet again DWARF gets screwed by a high school.

Time to get series and begin looking at putting together a definative financial plan for DWARF's future. I honestly think DWARF is going to have to become more commercial to even survive...

Extending our rent by 67% per week??? And what the fuck were they thinking... a non-profit community group having a $120 per week increase???

Time to seriously think about trying to get DWARF to purchase its own venue.

I'm working with Dunkie to produce a massive 3 team / 5 player per team / convention game.... 3 teams / 15 players / 3 whopping sessions of EXALTED **KICK ARSE** action, romance, tragedy, horror, drama....

Why do I dob myself in for these things???

Its obviously my masochistic tendencies...

re: campaigns

I really love it when a campaign comes together right...
I've been running a Stalingrad godlike campaign for a while now, and its all started to come together... Super powers, the misery of war, normal people confronted by attrocity... the hard part is to make sure that the doom and gloom doesnt become all encompassing, the secret is to add little scenes of normality that are offset against the unreal aspect of war. It hasnt happened in my campaign for a session or two, but there is at least one coming...

The characters are currently in a bit of a low... the horrors of war and devastation in Stalingrad have slowly been wearing them down, and it is important not to make the players depressed in game without providing them with some relief. After all, you still want your players turning up and enjoying the game.

So make sure that you give them a little bit of sunshine even in a bleak desolate place like Stalingrad... I've found this style works well for Cthulhu as well, in fact, adding something normal like a dinner party or dancehall, etc puts the characters somewhat off guard in the middle of a horror or dramatic game.

Real life is littered with humour and joy at the most in-opertune moments so why not use it in roleplaying...

Well, finally the DWARF and DWARFCon community grants are in...
Now its all up to the powers that be...

I guess these problems are some that the uni-based clubs never have to deal with. I'm not sure exactly of their structure but I'm fairly certain that they get subsidized by the uni's they are connected with.

But having said that I'm not complaining, DWARF has always achieved its goals by standing on its own to feet and our members deserve a "pat on the back".

Well tonight is a chance to unwind with da missus and littlies and finalise some stuff for the CCG Corner website i'm currently working on (http://www.australiandataservices.com/myworld/ccgcorner/). With any luck I'll get to finish off Time of Judgement, the Scrolls of Skellos, and The Expanded Psionics book that I just got.

Well... back to bathin the Elli-monster.

government grants

well, all the committee put in their booklets today...
with the exception of one or two who had "special" jobs instead...
It's great to see that all of the committee (with perhaps one exception) are really putting effort into their work... i'm very impressed

The gov grants booklets are a nightmare, the more I look at them the more I realise how much work again that the committee have done. I wish sometimes that the club members could see just how much these guys (and gals) do, so they'd appreciate them more...

Anyway, hopefull I'll have all the forms colated and finalised today (fingers crossed)... and then we can provide DWARF with some long term stability. My ultimate idea of a DWARF owned venue which includes shops and a "7 day a week" games venue is closer than ever.

Anyway, back to work... then after that continuing with Geneseed Lite and "Dark Days in Messantia". DWARFCon is going to really rock!

Another day, another dollar...

Gunna hopefully finish off the CCG Corner website - Jyhad portion today for myworld.
Its interesting that 4 months ago I couldnt program php at all!!! I'm glad I still have
the capacity to teach myself new things, continual improvement is very important to me
(god knows I need it)...

The Conan RPG for DWARFCon is coming along well, written the stats (groans) for the three
Player Characters; Antonio (Argosean Borderer/Pirate), Brant the Blade (Aquilonean Barbarian/Soldier),
and the dishonourable Jachinta (Zingaran Thief/Pirate)... Now to get into the fun stuff ---
Character Backgrounds... Antonio's is proceeding nicely, definately interlinked with Jachinta's...

The Conan RPG rocks... background is very true to Howard's rendition, the rules (groans) are actually
fun!!! Some editing is sh#@t and spelling / typesetting mistakes are rife but I love the book. Cant wait
for "Scrolls of Skelos"!!!
